M. HASSAN FARZIN, PH.D., P.E.
Dr. Farzin is Vice President and one of the founders of EES CORPORATION.
He has over 20 years of advance technology and management experience in
the nuclear industry and civil engineering projects, as well as teaching and
research. Dr. Farzin has functioned as Senior Engineer, providing engineering
review and design review of project deliverables for the Fernald
Environmental Management Project. These reviews have covered civil,
hydrogeological, architectural, mechanical and environmental Feasibility
Studies, Conceptual Design, Systems Engineering, Title II design and Title III
support program deliverables. Dr. Farzin is a licensed Professional Engineer in
the states of Illinois and Connecticut.
Dr. Farzin was a manager and senior engineer in the Salt Repository Project
Office responsible for reviewing documents and assessing results of technical
work in the areas of in-situ testing, exploratory shaft, and repository design.
Prior to that, Dr. Farzin was a manager and senior engineer with the Office of
Nuclear Waste Isolation (ONWI). His responsibilities included management of
subcontractors and technical review of the in-situ testing program, design and
construction of exploratory shaft facility in salt, review of repository and
waste package programs, initiation of safety and performance assessment
program, and participation in preparation and review of environmental
assessments. He was responsible for preparation of conceptual design reports, design criteria and test plans for the
exploratory shaft, and negotiated the architect engineering contract for the design of the shaft. He participated in preparation
of the statement of work and selection of a construction manager contractor for the exploratory shaft project. Dr. Farzin
organized a core group for management of design, construction and operation of the salt repository, including preparation of
the statement of work for architect-engineering services in the initial design of the repository. He was responsible for
preparation of a comprehensive engineering economics model of the repository life cycle costs and for a systems description
of the repository. He also prepared various licensing reports, including a Safety Assessment Plan. All his of activities were
conducted under the guidelines of a formal NRC Quality Assurance Program.
Dr. Farzin's experience includes commercial nuclear projects in the United States and abroad. Dr. Farzin has been lead
engineer for studies in safety analysis and design of nuclear power stations and has participated in NRC hearings. He has
initiated, organized, and managed nuclear safety and site and environmental divisions for the Atomic Energy commission of
Iran. He has participated in technical reviews and prepared many nuclear regulatory and licensing documents. In association
with the European nuclear community, Dr. Farzin managed a working group of professionals to study various options
available for the management of isolation of nuclear waste.
Dr. Farzin's other experience includes being the manager responsible for professionals and subcontractors' preparation of a
comprehensive engineering economics cost analysis model of the nuclear waste isolation salt repository life-cycle costs and
preparation of systems description of the repository. In addition, Dr. Farzin has been responsible for preparation of licensing
reports and safety assessment plans.
In his position of Vice President and Engineering Manager with EES CORPORATION Dr. Farzin has applied his capabilities in
technical management of environmental remedial action task orders at the Fernald Environmental Management Project,
